Dr. Nelson M. Anumaka is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (FCIB) and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA). He is also a Chartered Secretary and Administrator (ACIS) as well as a Chartered Public Finance Accountant (CPFA), London and a Member of the Institute of Directors (MIoD). He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Benin, an MBA (Accountancy) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and DBA (Finance) from SSBM, Switzerland. He had a robust career in the Banking Sector having worked with First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Afribank Plc, Trade Bank Plc and Gulf Bank Nigeria Plc. He also worked as a Senior Accountant with Nigerian Telecommunications Ltd. and had a stint in private practice as a Partner in B.C. Onyiwa & Co. (Chartered Accountants) before joining the then Nigerian Accounting Standards Board which metamorphosed into Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) in February 2005 as a Principal Manager Technical/Inspectorate Department. He held several positions including Assistant Director/Head, Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP) and Deputy Director/Head, Directorate of Auditing Practice Standards and Pioneer Director/Head, Directorate of Corporate Governance at FRCN up until December 2021. He is currently the Managing Consultant, NMA Consulting. He has played very active roles in the development and issuance of accounting standards in Nigeria. He has served on various Standard Setting/Technical Committees set up to develop accounting standards aimed at improving financial reporting in the various sectors of the Nigerian economy. He was a member of the Committee that drafted the 2011 SEC Code of Corporate Governance. He was a member of the Steering Board of the Corporate Governance Rating System of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. He was the Secretary to the National Technical Committee on Corporate Governance. He was also a member of IoD (Nigeria) Centre for Corporate Governance. Dr. Anumaka has participated and facilitated in various local and international conferences, seminars and workshops bearing on issues relating to financial reporting, corporate governance, accounting standards, banking, and compliance enforcement and monitoring including the World Accounting Standard Setters, (IASB) London, London School of Economics (LSE), Meet the Experts Conference (PWC/IASB) London, World Congress of Accountants (IFAC), CPE Boot Camp, Dallas, Euromoney Corporate Governance Training, Miami, Florida, USA, IHRDC Boston, Massachusetts, USA, UNCTAD – ISAR Geneva, Switzerland, PCAOB Washington D.C. USA, CIBN, ICAN, FITC, NAICOM, PENCOM, NGX, IOD, etc. He has a published work on Managerial Accounting and Control (Matic Education, 2000).
